Gun Control

There is much talk in the news about banning assault weapons.

Most of the discussion is based upon whether such a ban is consistent with the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which says, "------, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Let's look at the individual words. The meanings of "right, people, and keep" are obvious.

"Bear" means to carry.

"Arms" is a weapon of offense or defense; especially a firearm.

"Infringe" means to weaken, lessen, or diminish (WIktionary).

Our Government has already infringed our right to bear arms through the restriction of requiring carry permits.

Does that imply that Government has a further right to restrict the type of weapon that one may carry? In other words does one infringement justify another, or does one crime justify another?
